Imam Muhammad Al-Jawad(Pbuh)

Imam Muhammad Al-Jawad is the ninth Imam for Shiite Muslims. He was born on 10Rajab 195AH (≈8April811) in the holy city of Medina. His father is ImamAli ben Musa (Imam Ali Ar-Rida) and his mother isSabika (called also Khaizaran). His teknonymic (Kunya)is Abo J‘afar and his title is Al-Jawad(the generous).

After the death of his father, Imam Al-Jawad became the successor Imam. Although he was young, Imam Al-Jawad fulfilled his duty and followed the path of his fathers’ Imams through delivering the divine teachings to the Muslim community.

Shortly after he left Khorasan to Baghdad, the Abbasid’s Caliph Al-Ma’mon summoned Imam Al-Jawad to his palace and presented him to the then key scholars. As he proved scientific superiority, Al-Ma’mon presented his daughter Umm Al-Fadel to Imam Al-Jawad in order to marry her.Later, Imam Al-Jawad returned to Medina. However, the successor Abbasid Caliph Al-Mu‘tasim after the death of Al-Ma’mon summoned Imam Al-Jawad to Baghdad.

Shortly after he arrived in Baghdad, Imam Ar-Rida passed away on 30Zulqi‘dah 220 AH (≈25November 835). He was buried in the city of Baghdad, Iraq alongside his grandfatherImam Musa Al-Kazim where a shrine has been built. Notably, the shrine is called Al-Jawadain to denote to Imam Al-Jawad and his grandfather.
